FoRES

The FoRES project – Development of Forest RESilience to Fire under a Climate Change Scenario, is coordinated by the University of Aveiro and with the participation of CoLAB ForestWISE® and NIBIO – Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research.

Starting on 1 October 2022, this is one of the projects of the EEA Grants programme approved that year, which provides for preparation against extreme events related to climate change and risk management.

FoRES is aligned with the objectives of EEA Grants and the Environment Programme, and aims to propose nature-based forest management strategies that reduce the spread of rural fires and increase carbon dioxide sequestration and soil moisture retention.

The study area is the Lombada Forest Intervention Zone, managed by the Association of Traditional and Environmental Agricultural Producers, which is part of the network of Integrated Landscape Management Areas.

CoLAB ForestWISE® is responsible for the definition and operationalisation of the participative methodology aimed at involving local agents and owners in the selection of forest management strategies which best respond to the needs and challenges posed by climate change scenarios.
