On 24 February, as part of the Forest Knowledge Academy, Agenda transForm held a training session dedicated to introducing mobile terrestrial LiDAR (HMLS – Handheld Mobile Laser Scanning), an innovative technology for obtaining high-resolution three-dimensional images, essential for forest inventory and management.
The training took place at the Coimbra School of Agriculture (ESAC) and was attended by forestry professionals who had the opportunity to acquire and deepen their knowledge of the use of this technology.
The programme included a theoretical component, covering the basics of LiDAR, its different equipment and applications, as well as a practical component, with data collection in the field, digital processing and analysis of the results obtained.
The instructors, Professor Raúl Salas (ESAC-IPC) and Ivon Brandão (ESAC-IPC), highlighted the importance of LiDAR technology in modernising the forestry sector, enabling more precise analysis of the structure of stands, biomass monitoring and improved decision-making processes.
Following the success of the first edition of the LiDAR training session, which saw significant participation and great interest from the community, a new edition of the session is being considered.
