CoLAB ForestWISE® – Collaborative Laboratory for Integrated Forest and Fire Management – is a private, non-profit organisation. The CoLAB seal was attributed by the FCT on 30 January 2018 and its legal constitution took place on 29 September 2018.
Our Mission
We promote integrated forest and fire management, based on (co)research and development activities, the transfer of knowledge and technologies, acting as an interface between industry, academia and public administration with an impact on the forest and fire domains and on society.
Vision
To be a national and international reference in the co-generation and transfer of knowledge and technologies on integrated forest and fire management, assuming the interface between companies, academia and society.

WHAT WE DO
We develop (co)research, innovation and knowledge and technology transfer activities, generally at high TRLs and guided by a Strategic R&D&I Agenda that integrates the topics considered to be priorities by companies and the public sector within the scope of integrated forest and fire management in Portugal.
Our projects are the result of a joint effort between companies, academia and public bodies, associates and partners, in accordance with the principles of fairness established in our positioning and governance strategy.
As a result of our work, we aim to contribute to increasing sustainable forest management in Portugal, to the competitiveness of the Portuguese forestry sector and to reducing the negative consequences of major rural fires.
A NOSSA MISSÃO
CoLAB ForestWISE aims to carry out research and development (R&D) activities and transfer knowledge and technologies, in conjunction with other organisations, in order to:
The generalisation of integrated processes for the protection and forests sustainability, minimising the risk of fire and other biotic and abiotic risks;
Defining and optimising the processes associated with rural fire management, improving the capacity to support decision-making;
Increasing forest and forest ecosystem productivity and health and providing industry, the rural community and society in general with a wide range of services and high added-value forest-based products;
Promoting qualified employment and scientific employment by strengthening synergies with scientific and higher education institutions, particularly in the context of specialised, professional or advanced training programmes, in close collaboration with social and economic entities.
