WHO WE ARE
ForestWISE – Collaborative Laboratory for Integrated Forest and Fire Management is a non-profit association governed by private law. The CoLAB seal was awarded to ForestWISE by the FCT on January 30, 2018 and its legal incorporation took place on September 29, 2018.
Mission
We promote the integrated management of forest and fire, based on (co)research and development activities, transfer of knowledge and technologies, acting as a unifying element between industry, academia and public administration with impacts on the forest and fire sectors and on society.
Vision
To be a national and international reference in the cogeneration and transfer of knowledge and technologies on the integrated management of forest and fire, assuming the interface between business, academia and society.
Values
Contributing to a sustainable forest management;
Valuing forest products and services;
Increasing competitiveness of the Portuguese forest sector;
Stimulating sustainable development in low-density territories;
Promoting qualified scientific employment.


WHAT WE DO
We promote research, innovation and knowledge and technology transfer activities, tending to high TRLs and guided by a R&D&I Strategic Agenda that includes the topics considered as priorities by companies and by the public sector within the scope of integrated forest and fire management in Portugal.
Our projects are the result of a joint effort between companies, academia and public entities, associates and partners, according to the principles of equity established in our positioning and governance strategy (EN version, soon).
With our work, we intend to contribute to increase sustainable forest management in Portugal, the competitiveness of the Portuguese forestry sector and to reduce the negative consequences of the large rural fires.
A NOSSA MISSÃO
O ForestWISE tem por finalidade a prossecução de atividades de investigação e desenvolvimento (I&D), transferência de conhecimento e tecnologias, em articulação com outras entidades, com vista:
À generalização de processos integrados de proteção e gestão sustentável da floresta minimizando o risco de fogo e outros riscos bióticos e abióticos;
À definição e otimização dos processos associados à gestão dos fogos rurais, melhorando a capacidade para apoio à tomada de decisão;
Ao aumento da produtividade e da saúde das florestas e ecossistemas florestais e ao fornecimento à indústria, à comunidade rural e à sociedade em geral de um leque diverso de serviços e de produtos de base florestal de elevado valor acrescentado;
A potenciar o emprego qualificado e o emprego científico, reforçando sinergias com instituições científicas e de ensino superior, nomeadamente no âmbito de programas de formação especializada, profissional ou avançada, em estreita colaboração com entidades sociais e económicas.
