The Foundation for Science and Technology and CoLAB ForestWISE are organising the webinar ‘Pathway to impact: Benefits of scientific research for rural fire management’ on 18 September (15:00-17:00).

This webinar will present the report ‘Mobilising the R&D Programme for Preventing and Fighting Forest Fires – the path to impact’, which presents the analysis of the results produced and the impact assessment of the research projects carried out under the R&D Programme for preventing and fighting forest fires, promoted by FCT between 2017 and 2019.

The event’s programme will also include a round table, moderated by José Manuel Mendonça, Director of INESC TEC and Emeritus Professor at the University of Porto, which will bring together representatives from academia, public and private entities and other members of civil society. The topic under discussion will be the transfer and appropriation of research results as a driver for impact on society.

This webinar is another opportunity for strategic reflection on maximising the impact of applied research. Participation is free, subject to prior registration.

The R&D Programme for preventing and fighting forest fires emerged in the wake of the great fires of 2017 and its mission was to strengthen the development of R&D activities aimed at ensuring the appropriation and incorporation of scientific knowledge into decision support in operational systems. Through this call, FCT funded 56 scientific research and technological development projects in the field of preventing and fighting forest fires, with an investment of around 15 million euros.
