ForestWISE celebrates five years, Universidade FM

The ForestWISE collaborative laboratory was set up five years ago with the aim of promoting integrated forest and fire management, based on research and knowledge development.

The fifth anniversary was celebrated with a session that brought together the main national and international personalities and entities committed to enhancing the forest, the sustainable development of rural areas and the reduction of forest fires.

The Secretary of State for Regional Development, Isabel Ferreira, believes that this Laboratory is “a driving force” for the development of inland territories, enabling talent to be retained.

Patrícia Gaspar, Secretary of State for Civil Protection, believes that in the face of threats and risks, more and more research is needed, which is why she praises all the work that has been carried out at ForestWISE.

The CTO of the ForestWISE Collaborative Laboratory, Carlos Fonseca, says that the “great advantage” of the laboratory is that it brings together companies, academia and public bodies to transform the forestry sector.

Operating at UTAD, this collaborative laboratory has 39 qualified employees and its fundamental role is to articulate information and knowledge between companies, industry, academia and the public sector, promoting innovation, research and cooperation with the aim of finding the best mechanisms to face the new challenges of forest management.
