This Collaborative Laboratory for Integrated Forest and Fire Management was created after the major fires of 2017, in response to a collective awareness that something needed to change, as the limited knowledge associated to these episodes of firefighting was identified during this period.
Public opinion and the Government realised that it was necessary to create a structure that could integrate this knowledge, make it available and transfer it to the forest and fire sector. This was the only way to have a better forest, a future forest, to fight fires better, to reduce large fires and to respond to all the questions and concerns that emerged in 2017. In September 2018, ForestWISE was made official.
